| Topic Title: I need a tooth cleaning |
Friday, Jun 17 2005
I already feel so uncomfortable with these hard food deposits building up on my teeth. My friend told me that if I want to get rid of it I should go to my dentist and have a tooth cleaning. When I asked her if it hurts, she told me that it depends on the hard deposits to be removed. Is this true? What if I don’t want to feel pain? Is there a painless tooth cleaning?

Yes, that’s true. Of course, if the deposits on your teeth are already very hard, the tendency is the dentist will have to use a special set of instrument to remove the hard deposit. And he will have to exert more pressure. You will of course feel pain, but only for a short while.

Tooth cleaning can be painful but it is not a result of the dentist not being concerned but it is the result of the process itself. Since your food deposits are hard already, the dentist will use tools to remove those. And that may be painful. But the pain won’t last long, I tell you.

If you don’t want to feel pain during the tooth cleaning procedure, you can ask your dentist to use a local anesthetic for you. It would allow the tooth cleaning to be more thorough and painless, and you will be very comfortable the whole time. You just have to bear letting your mouth propped open for a couple of minutes.
