One of the most common problems that people are facing today is proper
oral care. Most people think that brushing is enough to take care of
their teeth. Well, it may be true that brushing your teeth at least
twice a day can help achieving good oral care.
Brushing is a good way to have a satisfying oral care. You should brush
the outer surfaces of the upper and lower teeth. Then brush the inner
surfaces of teeth in the same way as the outer surfaces. When brushing
the inner surfaces of front teeth, you should hold the toothbrush
straight using gentle motion scrubbing from the gingival margin towards
the crowns of the teeth. Finally, brush the chewing surfaces of the
teeth with the toothbrush moving backward and forward.
But brushing alone is not enough to make your teeth cavity free. There
are many factors that can attract cavities, but there are many ways
that you can prevent them as well.
Flossing can also help in making sure that you have good oral health.
There are some areas that toothbrushes can reach, which dental flosses
can.
Establishing good dietary habits can also help in terms of oral care.
People who take more frequent snacks are more likely to have dental
cavities and other dental problems. Avoiding highly acidic foods and
drinks may help tooth enamel from being washed and/or eroded by the
acid leading to the exposure of dentine, This makes the tooth become
sensitive to hot, cold, sweet and sour food or drinks. You must also
avoid eating hard foods such as bones and nuts in order to avoid tooth
trauma. You may ask your dentist of what food can lead into dental
caries. If you are an orthodontic patient or a denture wearer, you have
to avoid eating sticky food such as chewing gums, bubble gums etc. This
is to prevent orthodontic appliance or denture from, dislodging and
difficult cleaning.
Having regular dental check ups will also be helpful to your teeth.
Your dentist may still have some things that you should avoid and
things that will be good for your teeth that he or she hasn’t told you
about.
You should also avoid smoking because it promotes bad breath. It also
stains the teeth which are due to nicotine which is very sticky and it
also causes periodontal disease. Smoking can actually damage both of
your lungs and teeth, so try to avoid them.
Also, try applying fissure sealant to cover the grooves of your teeth.
Fissure sealant is a tooth-colored resin, which is well adhered to the
enamel of the tooth. Fissure sealant can seal off the fissure of a
tooth to prevent dental caries by blocking the plaque in the fissures
from getting access to the dietary sugars.
Fluoride which can be found on water and food, oral care products and
professional use topical fluoride can also be a good way for achieving
good oral care.
